Multicultural Campus

Japan House and its outstanding gardens provide a beautiful setting for learning about Japanese culture without leaving central Illinois. Japan House teaches such traditions as Chado ("the way of tea"), Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), and Origami (the paper folding art), and offers visitors a peaceful respite from the world.

Students can learn to Salsa dance or play Latin rhythms at La Casa Cultural Latina. “Asiantation” is an annual introduction to Asian Pacific American issues and resources, and African-American culture is celebrated and shared through events at the African-American Cultural Program.

Illinois was also chosen as one of the inaugural sites for European Union Centers, where scholars explore the challenges facing Europe and provide educational opportunities and materials about the EU.

And scholars and campus visitors can gain a better understanding of the world's cultures at the new Spurlock Museum of World History and Culture.

A multicultural campus is the very best educational setting for students in today’s increasingly globalized world. At Illinois, students have the chance to augment classroom scholarship with other opportunities to familiarize themselves with the world's people and cultures.
