James Scholar Program

Admission:
The top 15% of entering first-year students and transfer students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA are invited to participate in the College of Education James Scholar program.

Qualifications:

  1. Complete ONE honors course or section or a standard course in which you have completed an Honors Credit Learning Agreement form EACH semester.  (Students who are studying abroad for either fall or spring term must complete one honors course in the traditional manner during the semester they are enrolled on campus.  THE STUDY ABROAD SEMESTER WILL SATISFY THE OTHER REQUIRED HONORS COURSE.)
  2. Complete an Honors Credit Learning Agreement to complete a research project with an Education faculty member.
  3. Obtain a "B-" or better in these courses; and
  4. Maintain University of Illinois and overall grade point averages of at least a 3.5

College of Education Student Awards Program

Applicants must be in good academic standing and have a commitment to maintaining progress toward teacher certification. In the spring semester, students are invited by email to apply. Recipients are honored at an annual banquet in the fall.

Honors at Graduation

Eligibility for honors at graduation is calculated after grades are recorded following a student's final semester. The minimum grade point averages in all coursework presented for graduation are as follows: Honors, cumulative grade point average of 3.75; High Honors, cumulative grade point average of 3.85; Highest Honors, cumulative grade point average of 3.90
