ARC elipiticals

Hi! I noticed that over the past few weeks(?) many of the elipticals on the 1st floor of ARC has been replaced with newer versions of Precor. While the new Precors are nice, I really miss the "book stands" on the old Precors.

The older version had a ledge on the control pad, which makes it easy to mount books, notes, and even computers to entertain me while on the elipticals. The new version has a sleek design but doesn't leave room for mounting anything other than watching the built-in TV program.

Now I have to fight for the few Precor EFX 576i up stairs so I can have a stand. Can we please keep some of the Precors that have ledges?

Thanks!

The lighting at gym 3 has been bad for more than a year because of burned out light bulbs. There are a couple more burned out recently which make the lighting even worse particularly at the badminton courts. I hope they can be fixed as soon as possible.

Any recreation facilities north of Green Street?

I've been looking around for some time for a place to work out north of Green Street. I'm not looking for much, some treadmills, some orbitals, some locker rooms with showers, and even some free weights would be nice too. Are there ANY facilities north of Green Street? Are there any plans to add some?

I work on the north end of campus and working out at CRCE or ARC is a 2 hour process due to travel times.

I remember that Kenney Gym used to have a workout room, but I can't find any information about whether or not it is still open to rec members.

Winter Session Hours

During the winter break (both this year and last), the ARC has closed and CRCE has remained open. With fewer students on campus it does make some sense to keep only the smaller facility open. BUT! While CRCE seems to have plenty of treadmills for everyone, the freeweights area at CRCE is EXTREMELY tiny. One power cage, no deadlift platforms, and a very limited set of other freeweight activities. Even with the smaller student population, there's frequently a long weight for some of the equipment.

I know it's unlikely/impossible to change things up for this winter, but would campus rec at least consider opening ARC and closing CRCE for winter breaks in the future? Everytime I remember that the ARC will be closed I start looking at other area gyms, even though none of them are as good as the ARC.

basketballs

I have disappointed in the amount of basketballs available to check out at ARC. One of the advantages of having a facility like ARC is that it has a number of basketball courts available for use in different activities. Yet, recently there have been no basketballs available despite there being a number of empty courts. Of course, on some occasions, the fault is of those people who check out many basketballs and then meet up to play one game, where these balls are then unnecessary. However, on my most recent visit, this did not appear to be the significant problem. It seems to me that there are simply not enough basketballs to accommodate the number of courts available. Is there any plan to acquire more basketballs for check out?

Inline Skating Rink

I am a little upset that the skating rink is closed and I know of several other students that feel the same way. If it is some kind of safety hazard, I'm sure the problem can be fixed without a huge amount of money. I have also heard rumors that it might be demolished to make room for basketball courts. There are plenty of places to play basketball around campus and very few to play hockey. I just want campus rec to keep us hockey players in mind before they decide to make any huge changes.

Racquet Rental Fee

I understand that it costs $1 to rent any type of racquet. Last week, my friend rented 2 racquets for racquetball by mistake (we were going to play badminton). He asked a member services staff if he could change it for a badminton racquet right after without any extra charges, but this was to no avail. The "system" would not allow it (the staff was nice though). I suggest charging members $1 for racquet rentals while giving members the privilege to switch types of racquets throughout the day. Else, giving members a grace period to switch racquets in case of mistakes like my friend's would be nice too.

I would like to suggest that the ARC and CRCE allow costumers to reserve sport courts online (i.e. racquetball, volleyball, indoor soccer) to allow us to see when the courts are reserved and make the process more convenient and easy for both you and costumers.

New Machines by the Windows at CRCE

I would like to give feedback about the new machines near the windows at CRCE. They run very smoothly, quite in contrast to the old machines, and I enjoy the fan. However, I choose to workout at the windows because I want to see out the windows while I'm working out. I also choose to go there because I don't want to watch TV during my workout. With these new machines, I am being forced to watch either the screen or TV and I'm almost completely prevented from looking out the window. This is very upsetting to me; I come here 4-5 days a week and almost always use the elliptical, but now the quality of my workout will deteriorate. Before, patrons had the option of using ellipticals near the TVs or the windows, but now the choice is gone. I am sincerely requesting the placement of at least one of the older machines without screens near the windows, for those of us (and I can't speak for others, but I'm sure there are more members like me) who don't want to watch television at CRCE.
