I would like to keep music in my life and intend to audition for ensembles in the fall. What other opportunities are there for a non music major. I see you can apply for a minor after 30 hours, but was wondering what else is available? Also, are there music scholarships available for non music majors to play in ensembles, orchestras or bands. I know that you would have to declare one as primary and one as secondary so how would i go about this being that i want to go to UIUC and if i don't pass aud. or choose not to go that i would still be able to attend with diff major. but if i do decide to major in music i would be able to drop the other major. Obviously the principal teacher would be there, but is he/she joined by the other teachers for that instrument family? For instance, is a brass student heard by ALL the brass faculty, or just the ones that student would work with? Is this different between undergraduate and graduate students? Does the principal teacher have the final say in whether that student gets accepted? Who makes the decisions along the way? By this I mean, who looks at the student's initial application and decides whether the student should audition?
