Thanks so much to those of you who were able to attend today's Caffeine Break where we discussed our initial planning efforts for the Lync 2013 upgrade. I've attached the PowerPoint presentation that I used today. I also left my presenter notes on each slide in case the bullet points in the slide need clarification.

As I mentioned today, we've formed a UC Working Group to help guide service enhancement priorities, identify needs, and to keep an open, regular line of communication between the UC service team and campus IT Pros. There is additional information about this group in the PowerPoint presentation. If interested, you can submit your contact information here: http://uc.illinois.edu/lyncwg.

As always, feel free to contact me at any point. My office is DCL 2102 and you're welcome to call/email/IM me.

Andrew
UC Service Manager

Earlier this morning, Wednesday March 6th, 2013, between 5:30am and 9:15am, all Lync response groups were unable to receive calls. Response groups are used in many front office settings for departments on campus. The cause of the problem has been narrowed down to an unscheduled campus firewall reboot this morning that affected Lync response group service from communicating with each other between data centers in Urbana and Chicago. Response group service did not recover gracefully after the firewall reboot and manual intervention was required to fix the issue.

Due to network issues with our phone carrier, some inbound and outbound calls between Lync and outside numbers are experiencing no audio or unusable audio. Our phone carrier has identified the issue as a fiber cut in Midwest affecting multiple states and other phone carriers as well, such as AT&T. Check Twitter @citesUC for updates

Information on the Second Telephone Migration Wave

CITES has a second telephone migration scheduled for the beginning of next semester. The migration process involves CITES working with our Centrex telecom provider to move lines from Centrex lines to our Microsoft Lync system; each time we initiate this process with our telecom provider, their process involves at least a three month cycle to process migrations. Thus, CITES will be processing phone number migrations once a semester. Additionally, each time CITES initiates a migration, it can only be for either voice phone numbers or fax phone numbers.

Next semester's migration will be a voice number migration, thus we will be solely dealing with Centrex numbers used for voice communications that need to be migrated to the Microsoft Lync System.
