CITES is holding an Illinois Compass 2g Town Hall Meeting on April 24 in Room 314 Illini Union from 3:00 - 4:30 PM. The meeting will feature a panel of faculty sharing their experiences with Illinois Compass 2g and an "Open House" session that will highlight new uses, new tools, and enhancements in the new system, such as Grade Center, improved Communications tools, and the next major release scheduled for installation this summer (code named "Ocho"). This event is targeting faculty, instructors, administrators, and staff who want all the details on the new Illinois Compass and for instructors planning their move to Illinois Compass 2g.
In addition to having CITES Academic Technology Services staff at the event, CITES has invited any campus office to participate. The enterprise LMS touches everyone on campus, and a goal of the Town Hall is to bring together faculty, instructors, and learning technology experts from every department to share their experiences, ask questions, and begin planning the transition to Illinois Compass 2g. (Anyone who wants a spot at the Town Hall to meet and greet people, contact firstname.lastname@example.org by April 19, 2012.)
Illinois Compass 2g is the second generation of the Illinois Compass software. In December 2012, Illinois Compass 2g (powered by Blackboard Learn 9.1) will replace Illinois Compass (powered by Blackboard Vista). Beginning in January 2013, courses in Illinois Compass (Blackboard Vista) will be read-only access so users can see old sites, but not teach a live class with it. Therefore, it is important for faculty and instructors to plan their move now so they have time to become familiar with the new system and can redesign their content accordingly.
Consulting and training opportunities are available from CITES and many college and department offices. CITES Academic Technology Services Training Calendar offers a full range of workshops: http://go.illinois.edu/citesatscalendar, and CITES ATS offers free 1-on-1 meetings with a learning technology consultant for instructors to begin planning their move.
