  • Midterm behind :)

Hi all. Sorry, I havent written for a while but we have been busy with midterms and the Idea to Product (I2P) competition which was a challenge for my team JIA.  Today is Friday and the weather is pleasant. The weather is cooling and we know that it will not be long before the snow comes so we are enjoying this time outside with classmates or celebrating with families Happy Diwali, which is basically the festival of light (Indian culture). Again, go and enjoy your free time!!!

In general, Midterms were really challenging for our classmates as it was the first time many of us had taken exams in a long time.

Leadership class was really interesting especially the case study regarding Nokias current financial problems (check out Google finance).

Hi all. Sorry, I haven’t written for a while but we have been busy with midterms and the Idea to Product (I2P) competition which was a challenge for my team JIA.

Leadership class was really interesting especially the case study regarding Nokia’s current financial problems (check out Google finance). I think everyone feels that they could help run this company with the detailed answers we provided to the comprehensive questions our professor asked.

On the other hand, Statistics and Accounting classes were really complex requiring analytical and critical thinking. Basically, one needed to understand and explain the meaning of statistical numbers and make corporate decisions based on those numbers. To me, Accounting is the most important subject, if you want to be entrepreneur. It is important to know how much money you have and what your profit on accrual or cash basis is. Another thing is that you have to know is how to prepare your balance sheet, financial statement and cash flow statement to reflect your profitability.

A special class we’ve had is Marketing. During simulation time, many of our classmates almost blamed each other (within the teams) due to different cultures and visions. We learned from each other’s as well as the professor about positioning your products, and examining the 5C, 4P and STP.

Thank you professors My classmates and I know that this knowledge can be applied in our daily life as well as in our future work.

Finally, the Idea to Product (I2P) competition is one of the extracurricular experiences my new classmates and dear friends Jag, Indra and I chose to take part in. In general we came up with an idea and competed against other Illinois students. Among 72 online applications our idea was chosen to move on to the next round where only 10 ideas would compete.  It was a great experience and encouraged us to think more about our ideas and prepare to another competition. It was real-life practice for us.

On last comment I’d like to make is in regards to the terrible flood in Thailand and earthquake in Turkey. I hope our classmates’ families and relatives are safe and all will be well. Good luck guys.
