Following the exciting kick-off to the 2011 Illinois MBA Orientation, the action continued on Tuesday! Students enjoyed an entertaining and informative etiquette presentation by the captivating Patricia Cook.
Cook focused the initial portion of her presentation on professional behavior, and the students displayed their appreciation with laughter at her jokes and questions in seeking more information on the subject matters. Afterwards, I inquired what Cook would say the most important factor in making a great first impression was, and she replied, “I would say eye contact and the handshake.”
Once the first portion of the presentation had concluded, students reconvened in the atrium of the beautiful Business Instructional Facility to take part in the second half, which explicitly spoke to proper etiquette. Cook’s etiquette instruction aimed at deciphering between proper utensils, meal decorum, as well as handling conversation during events.
Later in Day Two, MBA 1’s learned about Illinois Business Consulting and the various organizations under the MBAA umbrella, which students can join to enhance their experience in the Illinois MBA. Representatives from the clubs spoke with the collective body of students, providing overviews of their respective organizations.
Before the second day concluded with the “Meet Your Professors” Social, the new class of MBA students had the opportunity to address the second year MBAs with any questions they had. This candid discussion yielded clarity on numerous topics pertinent to their preparation as the first day of classes quickly approaches.
