Competitors for the 2012 Scholarship Case Competition included (L to R): Ashley Hudson, Harout Sahakian, Isak Griffiths, Egemen Gozoglu, Matthias Uhl, Rose Aba Dodd, Adam Sherman, Steven Rodriguez, and Utkarshi Joshi.
On Friday, March 9, nine prospective students for the University of Illinois MBA program competed for top scholarship prizes. The annual Illinois MBA Scholarship Case Competition offers prospective students a unique and productive way to show off their analytical and presentation skills to seasoned professionals and program administrators. In return, the top three participants earn significant scholarships that apply toward a degree from the Illinois MBA program.
Held at Accenture’s headquarters in Chicago and judged by 12 alumni in a two-round format, this year’s competition provided a live business environment for the participants who hailed from as far away as Ghana, located in West Africa.
Three finalists advanced to the second and final round, including Adam Sherman of Miami, Florida; Matthias Uhl of Noerdlingen, Germany; and Utkarsh Joshi, a native of India who lives and works in the Chicago suburbs.
Finalists presented their cases to a room full of judges, current MBA students, faculty, and staff.
By the end of the day, Joshi took the top prize in the contest, earning himself a full two-year scholarship to the Illinois MBA. Sherman was awarded second place with a 50%-tuition scholarship. Uhl earned third place along with a $10,000 scholarship to the Illinois MBA. The winners were announced and recognized during the MBA Alumni Awards Banquet held at the JW Marriott in Chicago later that night.
Stig Lanesskog, associate dean for the MBA program, addressed the competitors, “Simply by gaining the opportunity to participate in this event, you have all proven that you have what it takes to be a successful MBA student.” In fact, all nine participants including Ashley Hudson, Egemen Gozoglu, Harout Sahakian, Isak Griffiths, Rose Aba Dodd, and Steven Rodriguez have earned themselves a seat in the Illinois MBA Class of 2014.
