Last fall, the MBA Association in conjunction with the MBA Office decided to host a series of events where all Illinois MBA stakeholders could get together, decompress from the week’s busy schedule, do some networking and socialize with one another. Thus, the monthly MBA Networking Reception was created.
This past Thursday, the first networking event of the semester was held in the BIF Commons and was sponsored by AT&T. The networking event was preceded by a company info session put on by Charmaine Murphy (lead campus recruiter for AT&T) where many interested first year students learned about full-time and internship opportunities. After the info session, the participants joined other fellow students, faculty, administration and alumni for some light appetizers and drinks in the atrium.
Thursday’s event was the fourth installment of the MBA Networking Reception and there are events planned for February, March and April as well. All parties involved have expressed how the events have served as a great way to catch up with classmates and professors in a non-academic setting as well as to extend interactions between the student bodies from different MBA classes.
Next month’s event will be held down at Research Park where there are several corporate offices seeking MBA interns for the summer. It should prove to be another great opportunity to interact with employers and alums.
