Hello Everyone! Thanks for checking out this post! On this blog in general, you will be able to find the answers to all of your questions about college life, internships, classes, and just overall what it is like being in the College of Business . Ask us anything. Really, anything.
That said, I would like to first introduce myself then go into a little bit into why I chose this school and what I am currently involved with. My name is Luis Farias. I am a Sophomore in the College of Business majoring in Information Systems/Information Technology. Originally from the Southeast Side of Chicago, I now live in Hammond, Indiana. Although it is not far from where I used to live, it's hard not saying, "yea, Im from Chicago" anymore, after living there for over 16 years. My mom still has a hair salon in Chicago on 95th and Commercial, if you ever need a haircut, just putting it out there though. I attended St. Lawrence Seminary High School, a boarding high school in Wisconsin (you can ask me about that later), but many of my friends have attended schools in Chicago and so I am familiar with many of those schools.
I came to this school for mainly three reasons, because of its large and diverse student body, because of its top tier Business school, and because the school offered me a very generous financial aid package. Also, I saw the potential of meeting so many new interesting people and saw that there was so much to get involved with on campus. I believe it is important to get involved not only within the College of Business from the get-go, but also with other organizations that interest you. It is critical in building your network, and makes that network diverse. I am currently in Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity, La Unidad Latina Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Inc., am an active member of the Association for Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), and am employed as a Resident Advisor. I have also participated in Floor Lovers Breakdance Crew, Automotive Enthusiasts Club, have played on the College of Business intramural soccer team, and have participated in other events with other organizations that show my interests and my personality.
I would love to talk about any of these things more in detail. Please ask what you wish and I am excited to hear from you!
