  • Getting involved

    Hey, everyone!

It's good to finally be back in the swing of things after a wonderful summer. I spent the summer interning at BP on their Integrated Supply & Trading Compliance team, and it was a wonderful experience. I'll give you some more details of my internship and some other ones in a later post. For now, here is the most important piece of advice I can give you!

Every time we are at the beginning of the semester, there is one thing I love to stress--getting involved! The College of Business offers so many ways to get involved, and getting involved is really crucial to your success. Not only do you meet your best friends, but you also grow professionally, meet recruiters and alumni, take on leadership opportunities, and so much more. Maybe it's something related to your major, maybe it's a business fraternity, or maybe you want to be with an organization that gives back. There is something for everyone, and before you know it, you'll be taking classes with your best friends, studying endless hours with the people you love, and really feeling like you know everyone in the College.

For the past two semesters, I have been President of Business Council, a group on campus dedicated to giving back to the local community and the College of Business. We work closely with companies, volunteer at Career Fairs, learn from alumni, and work together to have social events and other philanthropic opportunities. Last semester, we even raised $10,000 for a local charity, The Swann Center. BC is also a great way to meet friends in the College of Business. I have lived with BC members the past two years, and they are honestly my best friends on campus. There really is no better way to get to know amazing friends and College of Business Deans and Faculty, too! Joining BC was the best decision I have ever made. This week, we are interviewing for our Fall 2011 New Member class. We had over 330 people attend our Information Night last week, and they got to see what makes our organization so great!

So, to everyone thinking about the College of Business--know that there is a quick, easy, and amazing way to make the College of Business family your own! And, if you're just getting started, don't wait to get involved!!
