Internship Description
Work Environment:
The College of Engineerings Office of Communications is an exciting on-campus unit that designs various print, web, and multimedia material largely targeted at prospective students and alumni and sharing the exciting activites taking place in Engineering. We work closely with departments and units throughout the College.
The office consists of a small team of copywriters, a designer, and student interns. Professional employees work closely with our interns to help develop their communication, journalism, editorial, technical, and team skills. The environment is extremely collaborative and students are heavily involved in all parts of the process, from conception to production. We strive to make our internships educational, so students will experience aspects of communications, marketing, and the creative process not necessarily accessible in the classroom.
Applicant Requirements
Students should be motivated and vocal about ideas. Our office is passionate about working as a team, so strong organizational and collaborative skills are a must. Additional requirements include:
- Finding interesting student stories in Engineering
- Acting as a field reporter, possibly working with classes and/or students for an extended period of time in order to communicate about the experiences and opportunities available
- Writing and editing print publications and web content
- Skilled at research
- Strong communication skills
- Dependable
- Positive attitude and enjoy working with people
Work Activities
Attending classes and events, acting as a field reporter; editing publications; writing drafts for publications; researching peer marketing materials: web and print; scheduling photo shoots with students and faculty; participating in brainstorming sessions for future publications and web content; assisting as needed
