In a recent article published on http://www.architectsuccess.com/, Assistant Director in the School of Architecture here at UIUC, Lee W. Waldrep discusses the myriad of career paths for architecture students.

Waldrep analyzes the skills fostered and the lessons taught by an architectural education, especially stressing communication, collaboration, the ability to integrate, research skills, and creative problem-solving. Waldrep insists that an architectural degree is not only marketable, but the natural jumping-off point for a number of fields. He concludes with a comprehensive list of possible career paths organized by the architectural skill sets they draw upon most heavily.

Dr. Waldrep’s book, Becoming an Architect: A Guide to Careers in Design ( John Wiley & Sons, 2010) is available in its most recent edition in the closed stacks section of the Ricker Library of Architecture and Art (call number 720.23 W147b2010).
