General Toussaint L'Ouverture
Barry Gaither is the Executive Director and Curator of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists (NCAAA). He has taught courses on African American art at Harvard College, Wellesley College, and Massachusetts College of Art, among others, and his lecture on Thursday, January 24, will be about the Toussaint L'Ouverture Series by Jacob Lawrence and Lawrence's contribution to African-American art. Lawrence was a painter who focused on the struggles of black culture, and this series covers the life of Toussaint L'Ouverture, who led the founding of Haiti in 1791. The lecture will take place in the College of Law Auditorium at 4:00 p.m.
The Toussaint L'Ouverture Series will be in the Krannert Art Museum from January 25 through April 28, 2013.
