MARA-GIRI: Drum & Dance Project
(Ma-ra gee-ree: Destiny)

Mission:The ongoing goal of this project is to continue the study and practice of West African drum and dance in the Champaign/Urbana community. In addition, to facilitate the arrival and sustained mentor-ship of professional dance and drum instructors from West Africa in the Champaign/Urbana community. By doing so, the Mara-Giri project hopes to impart and share the wisdom, experience, and culture of West Africa past and present to the greater community.

Beginning on August 19--Djibril Camara will be joining Mara-Giri in Chambana to teach dance classes every Sunday! These classes will be at the Channing-Murray Foundation @ 1209 W. Oregon in Urbana (the corner of Oregon & Matthews) from 6 - 7:30 PM. Please join us! Classes are only $10 for students and $12 otherwise.

Check out the drumming classes starting on August 26th, too.
