Multiple Merwins
Pulitzer Prize winning poet, translator, and environmental activist W. S. Merwin is the focus of this exhibition in the University of Illinois Library's Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Mounted in conjunction with the Program in Medieval Studies conference, Translating the Middle Ages, the exhibition explores Merwin's approach to the work of translation. It also examines the importance of environmental and political activism in his life. Merwin's literary archive--one of the University's preeminent collections--supplies a wealth of books, manuscripts, and ephemera for an intimate look at the creative process of an American master. |
