| Do you use PowerPoint slides to teach? Are you doing it well? Have you considered the cognitive and pedagogical implications of the slide presentation? ATLAS, CITES, and CTE have joined forces to assist you in preparing, revising, and implementing PowerPoint slides for teaching. We'll start with an overview of text and graphical design issues so you can leverage the power of visual displays for teaching. Additionally, we'll show how the slides can be utilized to create an interactive and creative classroom environment. Some alternatives and supplements to PP slides will be introduced. Once you understand the potential for well-constructed PowerPoint slides, you'll work in pairs to critique and revise some example PP slides. As the group debriefs, we'll review what we've learned and analyze trends from the activity (what works and doesn't work). You should leave the session with improved PP slides and a set of principles for designing educationally significant PowerPoint presentations for the classroom. |
