The Student Challenge is for students at colleges and universities from the six state Midwest region who are interested in developing a clean energy business. The Clean Energy Trust administers the competition, which provides mentorship to each of the state winners and prize money to the companies with technologies that can most successfully be brought to the marketplace.
The Illinois Student Challenge is a state-level business competition for university students. The mission of the program is to accelerate the commercialization of clean technology research and development from the region's leading universities and national labs, and to educate first-time entrepreneurs about the process of technology commercialization. Applications for the Illinois Student Challenge will be accepted through the Clean Energy Exchange, beginning in October, 2012, with the final deadline on December 3rd, 2012.
5-10 teams will be selected to compete at a live pitch event, to be held in mid-January, 2013. One winner of the Illinois Student Challenge will be selected to receive a $10,000 cash prize, and will earn the opportunity to compete at the Midwest regional Clean Energy Challenge to be held on April 4th, 2013 in Chicago. Finalsts will present to a distinguished panel of investors, industry and technial experts. One grand prize will receive a $100,000 cash award, and an opportunity to compete at the National Clean Energy Business Competition in the Summer 2013, in Washington D.C.
