Allan deSouza

“Through the Black Country and Beyond”

Allan deSouza is internationally acclaimed for his photographic, installation, text and performance works that, as he puts it, “restage historical evidence through counter-strategies of fiction, erasure, and (mis)translation.” deSouza will be invited to campus primarily in conjunction with World on the Horizon: Swahili Arts Across the Indian Ocean, an exhibition opening in fall 2017 that engages with the Swahili (east African) coast as a dynamic, interstitial space of global connectivity linking itinerant peoples, objects, and ideas across vast expanses of land and sea.
