ECE - 590 I Power & Energy Systems Seminar: Estimation of Feeder Topology and Branch Impedances Using Smart Meter Measurements
Abstract:
Power systems are experiencing remarkable changes due to several factors, including the need for the integration of renewable energy resources, the challenges of dealing with the aging equipment on the grid and increasing concerns of system vulnerability. The smart grid implementation provides a source of technological and societal evolutions whose induced benefits have yet to be measured in their entirety. We report on work that makes detailed use of smart meter technology to estimate feeder topology and branch impedances from measured values of houses' complex power consumptions and voltages to estimate the feeder topology and the branch measurements. These estimates serve to provide better data for many distribution system analysis and control applications.
