Abstract: Surveying the relationships of Jews in France, this lecture examines how French ideas of the nation have influenced self-definitions among French Jews. It also analyzes contemporary intellectual figures such as Alain Badiou on the so-called 'Jewish question' and aims to show the dangers of totalizing the name Jew.
