Is translation a calling? And if so, what are its hidden reasons? In this talk, Laura Freixas, drawing on her own experience -as a child born in a bilingual family and educated in a third language, who went on to become a translator, a publisher and an author- explains why translating can be seen, from an early age, as a vital need, a radar to avoid colliding with cultural icebergs.

Laura  Freixas is a distinguished Spanish writer, translator, and feminist activist. She is teaching two eight-week courses for the Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese: one on autobiography under dictatorship and one on creative writing in Spanish.
