Botanical Exploration in the Canadian Arctic
Dr. Lynn Gillespie
Research Scientist, Canadian Museum of Nature
and Adjunct Professor, University of Ottawa

The Canadian Arctic is a vast and difficult-to-access region of over two million square kilometers of tundra, polar desert, and glaciers.  Exploration of its vascular plant flora has been ongoing for almost two centuries, yet substantial gaps remain in our understanding of the flora.   Dr. Lynn Gillespie, who has worked on the systematics and floristics of arctic plants for almost 20 years, will share some of her experiences undertaking botanical fieldwork in the Canadian Arctic and highlight recent botanical discoveries.  She will also discuss recent research projects including molecular studies to resolve difficult species complexes, barcoding the arctic flora, and a new project on the Arctic flora of Canada and Alaska.
