The Second Annual Neuroengineering Symposium will be held on June 28th, 2012 at the Beckman Institute of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The emerging discipline of neuroengineering, or neural engineering, seeks to understand, enhance, and interface with neural systems. This free, one-day event is designed to highlight the growing neuroengineering presence at Illinois, as well as to expose students, faculty, and guests to neuroengineering work being pioneered across the country. The symposium will highlight three key areas of neuroengineering: audio information processing, neuro-imaging, and brain-computer interfaces. For each of these areas, the symposium will feature short presentations from University of Illinois faculty and one-hour presentations by invited speakers, including Charles Larson of Northwestern University, Jack Gallant of the University of California, Berkeley, and David Van Essen of the Washington University in Saint Louis. Our keynote speaker this year will be Jonathan Viventi of New York University. An extended lunch break will feature demonstrations from some of the University of Illinois laboratories and tours of the Beckman Institute facilities as well as a student poster session. This symposium is an open event. We are excited to welcome any and all who have an interest in neuroengineering or related fields. Please register in advance to receive a lunch and/or submit a poster abstract.
