David Cain, Kevin Purcell, and Aasne Vigesaa
Free and open to the public
ECCE Speaker Series, UIS Women's Center, and UIS Theatre
I looked at him over my shoulder: Ive got out at last, said I, in spite of you.
The Yellow Wallpaper was filmed in the historic Vachel Lindsay Home here in Springfield. The film stars local actor, Aasne Vigesaa. The original play was directed by Kevin Purcell, and the film by David Cain: the three discussion panelists for this ECCE event.
Aasne Vigesaas electrifying performance as the Narrator of Gilmans story takes you through one womans extraordinary emotional journey through confinement that may be the result of traditional power structures, or perhaps other factors are at play.
David Cain is an artist, filmmaker, composer, author, animator, and teacher. His production company, UMEDIA, Inc., is located at the Hoogland Center for the Arts in Springfield, where he is a resident artist. Kevin Purcell is a founding member of Over the Moon Productions, and directed Shakespeare Shorts and other plays. As an actor, Kevin was seen in UIS Theatre's production of As You Like It, as well as local productions. Aasne Vigesaa holds an MFA in Acting from Northern Illinois University, and has taught as an adjunct for UIS Theatre.
Students must attend both the film AND the discussion to receive credit for this event.
