Title: "Necessary Spaces: Exploring the Richness of Childhood Experiences in Black Communities" Abstract: Current conversations about educational opportunity and achievement increasingly address the role of impoverished communities in child outcomes. Many of these discussions lack a theoretical account that communities can use to develop sustainable roles in supporting children's behavioral and academic adjustment to school. I will present my framework for neighborhood networks of lifelong learning and present studies that undergird my vision.
