Cameron McCarthy, Director of GSE and a professor in the Institute of Communications Research, will open the morning’s proceedings with a keynote entitled, “Wrestling with the Future in Vocabularies of Tradition:  Reflections on Field Research in Barbados Elite Schools.” Examining the interface of education and globalization in “post-development state” in a postcolonial timbre, this work advances McCarthy’s recent work with an international research team investigating elite international schools and their students.

Tze-Chang (George) Liu, a recent GSE PhD graduate now teaching at Tunghai University in Taiwan, will give the invited afternoon keynote speech at 2:00 p.m. Entitled "Global Creative Economy, Open Education and Higher education,” this lecture expands upon Dr. Liu’s dissertation research. This symposium is open to all University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate students and faculty. If you would like to present your work, or just to attend and participate, please email Margaret Fitzpatrick at fitzpa11@illinois.edu.
