NRES Special Departmental Seminar by Dr. Megan Konar, Princeton University
Title: Water for Biodiversity and Food
Global freshwater resources are finite and subject to increasing pressures from population growth, economic development, and climate change. Water resources available for plant use comprise less than 0.34% of the global supply, representing a trade off between users. Water is essential for both plant biodiversity and crop production. In this seminar, Megan will discuss two themes of her research. First, she will present a model of tree diversity that is capable of quantifying the potential impacts of climate change on biodiversity patterns. Second, she will analyze how water and food systems are linked through international trade using tools of network theory.
Megan Konar graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor's degree in Conservation and Resource Studies with a minor in Forestry. She received a Master's degree from University of Oxford, where she studied Water Science, Policy and Management. Megan is currently attending Princeton University where she has received a Master's degree, and is a Ph.D. Candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
