"Petascale" refers to computing and data in the quadrillions, like the more than 13 quadrillion calculations the Blue Waters supercomputer performs every second! In scientific notation, 1 quadrillion is 10 to the 15th (1015). So on (October 15) NCSA celebrates PETASCALE DAY!
Scientific visualizations illustrate data to enable scientists to better understand and share their insights. See how our Milky Way Galaxy possibly formed, roam the ocean floor, get up-close with an F3 tornado, and view other stunning 3D high-definition visualizations created by NCSA's Advanced Visualization Laboratory for IMAX theaters and planetariums.
Come any time between 3 and 6 p.m. The demonstration lasts approximately 15 minutes.
Metered parking is are available on surrounding streets and in the parking garage north of the NCSA Building. The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District offers excellent service to the area.
