Are you teaching a course that includes sensitive topics or controversial issues? Are you concerned that your classroom discussions have the potential to go from constructive to adversarial at the drop of a hat? Have you ever been in a class where a tense or uncomfortable situation broke out and wondered, "What on earth would I do if I were the instructor right now?" or questioned the appropriateness of how the instructor handled the situation? In this workshop, we will address these types of questions and provide attendees with a toolbox of problem solving strategies for a variety of sensitive topics and situations.
