PowerPoint, and other software-driven presentations, can be great visual aids for the classroom setting, but often they are created and implemented with little forethought. "Default" PowerPoint slides can stifle learning, demoralize students, and create a sub-optimal learning environment. Whether you are employing PowerPoint, Prezi, or Google Docs, you need to think about what we know in terms of learning theories, cognition, and student retention of material.

This session, co-facilitated by the Center for Teaching Excellence and CITES Academic Technology Services, will cover a bit of cognitive research regarding perception and learning while also providing general strategies and useful tips for interactive and engaging presentations. After this session, you should have the knowledge to edit your old presentations and create new dynamic ones that will foster a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
