In How Learning Works, Susan Ambrose and her colleagues identify the following principle: "How students organize knowledge influences how they learn and apply what they know."

Students often struggle to connect new concepts to what they already know. Concept mapping can help students make sense of complex information by providing a means of organizing and representing knowledge. A visual format can help students gain an overview of the concepts being studied. Concept maps can be used as a tool for learning, for teaching, and for assessment. In this interactive session, you will learn about these different ways to use concept maps in your course.
