Medium & High Energy Seminar:""R-parity violating Supersymmetry and its LHC signals"
"The Standard Model (SM) suffers from a naturalness problem. Resolutions of this problem require modifications of the SM at the TeV scale. Recent LHC results made a major dent in the parameter space of many well-motivated theories which address the naturalness problem, including R-parity conserving supersymmetry. I will discuss the naturalness problem of the SM, introduce supersymmetry as its possible solution, and further describe "natural", or "effective" supersymmetry, which leads to challenging collider signatures. I will claim that "effective" supersymmetry can naturally accommodate R-parity violation (RPV). I will further discuss a rich spectrum of collider signatures of RPV effective supersymmetry, with an emphasis on baryon-number violation. These signatures can be easily overlooked by standard searches for supersymmetry, since they do not contain lots of missing energy. However, they can also be considered as an opportunity for the LHC experiments, leading, unlike in R-parity conserving case, to a fully reconstructable event. I will propose new LHC searches which can be sensitive to RPV top and gluon superpartners."
