The goal of this workshop is to put our students and faculty in touch with Illinois businesses, to build a sustainable platform for dialogue about China. The workshop will consist of three round tables: 1. Illinois Businesses, 2. U of I Undergraduate Students, 3. U of I professors in Chinese studies. We hope to address these issues: What was the historical context of China's economic transformations? What aspects of Chinese culture and history are crucial in propelling these changes? What does China's rise have to do with University of Illinois students? What are the opportunities and challenges for the State of Illinois, for its agriculture, industry, and commerce sectors? What are the opportunities for our undergraduate students? What qualities Illinois businesses would like to see in our students and in our curriculum? As of April 30, three corporations have agreed to come: Rolls Royce, Nielson, National Starch.
