Since 2008, Wayne Clough has served as the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Prior to this, he was president of the Georgia Institute of Technology, which underwent significant growth, improved retention and graduate rates, and increased nationwide rankings during his presidency (1994-2008). Clough has served on the President's Council of Science and Technology, and the National Science Board. Working in innovative ways across disciplines within the Smithsonian, and with new partners outside the Institution, new opportunities are possible even in challenging economic times. The Smithsonian is determined to expand its global relevance and help the nation shape its future through research, education and scientific discovery on major topics of the day.
