Lawrence B. Schook serves as the University of Illinois’ senior research officer as Vice President for Research. A noted entrepreneur, Dr. Schook served on the board of directors for the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and is currently on the Board of Managers for the Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories. He is also the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor and previously served as the Director of the Division of Biomedical Sciences. A professor of Animal Sciences, Bioengineering, Pathobiology, Nutritional Sciences, Pathology, and Surgery, his research focuses on comparative mammalian genomics and applications of technologies to create biomedical models.
The Elements of a Successful Research Enterprise seminar is part of The Landscape Seminar Series (LSS). LSS is designed to acquaint junior faculty, postdocs, and graduate students with the range of public and private funders who support health science research. Led by a Steering Committee of faculty funded by the featured agencies, the LSS will present a roadmap of the funding opportunities offered by each agency, highlight existing funded projects at Illinois or partner institutions, and provide participants with a basic understanding of the application and award process.
