Event Detail Information
The Minority Health in the Midwest Conference (MHMC) at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health (UIC-SPH) is a Regional Conference held in conjunction with the Annual Minority Health Conference at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health. With over 30 years of experience, UNC was an ideal partner for developing our programming. The conference is supported by the Urban Health and Diversity Program (UHP) and the Minority Students for the Advancement of Public Health (MSAPH) at the UIC-SPH. The UHP is a program that seeks to increase the number of underrepresented minority public health graduates in efforts to increase the pool of minority public health practitioners contributing to our communities. MSAPH is a student organization that strengthens the minority graduate experience by providing opportunities to build leadership talent and professional development through a supportive social network within UIC and from across the public health community. The UHP and MSAPH foster student leadership to serve as politically active advocates in addressing issues pertaining to communities of color. Thus, the conference parallels our mission and commitment to challenge racial and ethnic health inequities.
The Minority Health in the Midwest Conference is a graduate student planned and led event that provides a forum for emerging scholars, community leaders and researchers from all health disciplines whose interests center around issues pertinent to the health of minorities, underserved and special needs populations across the Midwest Region. The day-long conference features a networking breakfast and reception, local and national keynote speakers, workshop sessions, and poster presentations from students and professionals across the Midwest Region.
