ECE Explorations (200): "Gaming is for Grown-Ups: A View of the Industry"
Please join Jack Buser from Sony PlayStation on Wednesday, March 13 at 5:00pm in 151 Everitt Lab as he presents “Gaming is for Grown-Ups: A View of the Industry.”
Abstract: The gaming industry is in a renaissance period. Huge advancements in technology have created powerful platforms that allow for sophisticated experiences that push the boundaries of graphical quality, animation, storytelling techniques, user input, and more. At the same time, open platforms and investments in cultivating talent is ushering in a ‘golden age’ of publishing, where innovative independent developers are creating groundbreaking games that truly boggle the mind. Moreover, an entirely new demographic is discovering the world of videogames via casual games on their smart phones, tablets, or via social games on Facebook. It’s estimated that there are over 163 million gamers in the US alone and the industry is expected to grow to over $80 billion by 2015. As the gaming industry continues its transformation, what are the trends that will fuel this growth? As consumer tastes evolve, how will gaming companies continue to create experiences that are truly satisfying? Jack Buser, Senior Director of Digital Platforms at Sony PlayStation will lead a discussion on the current state of the gaming industry, a look into the future, and provide his insight on building a career in gaming.
