A cross-campus exhibit designed by Ryan A. Ross of the University Library and entitled "The Morrill Act at 150: Celebrating the Land-Grant Mission of a Global University" will be installed in many campus facilities, including Altgeld Hall, the Architecture Building, Davenport Hall, the Illini Union, and Noyes Laboratory, during the month of October 2012.
The exhibition consists of five unique displays featuring facsimiles of materials from the University Archives about the beginnings of the land-grant education movement and the Morrill Act's influence on the development of the University of Illinois. Selections from the exhibition have also been turned into a virtual exhibit and are found at http://morrillact.illinois.edu/exhibit.html.
The exhibition has been created in conjunction with the campus' Morrill Act sesquicentennial celebration, which will culminate on Oct. 26 in the Office of Public Engagement's symposium at the Illini Union, entitled "The Morrill Act at 150: The Future of Public Higher Education."
