The main features of the educational system in Brazil will be presented, with emphasis on higher education. General statistics and a discussion of the role of public and private institutions will be offered. The presenter will show how the educational system in Brazil turns out to be an engine of inequality. Recent changes will be described, such as a massive expansion of the public higher education system, and the introduction of quotas and affirmative action policies in the public institutions.
