On Friday, October 4, 2013, the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science will hold a half-day iGIScience Symposium to celebrate geographic information science and its close ties with geography at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The event will include presentations, panels, and posters by current and former departmental faculty, students, and affiliates about innovations in GIScience theory, methods, and applications. The event will look to the past and the future, providing many opportunities for participants to interact, learn from each other, and develop possibilities for the future of GIScience.

1:15 - GIScience in Practice Panel: a dialogue highlighting the diverse applications of GIS in the public and private sectors. Students interested in GIScience-based careers can learn about opportunities and challenges faced by alumni in the field.
