"The Yacoubian Building" (Egypt), 2006, 164 mins.
An eye-catching construction, the Yacoubian Building in Cairo was long regarded as the last word in comfort and elegance. Nowadays, the veneer has cracked and the shine has dulled to reveal the truth underneath the faade. Through interwoven stories of a number of the residents, the film paints a vibrant but socially critical picture of contemporary Egypt. Based on the novel 'Imarat Ya'qubiyan by Alaa El Aswany; starring 'Adil Imam, Nur al-Sharif, Yusra, Sumayya al-Khashshab, Hind Sabri, Is'ad Yunus, Ahmad Ratib, and Ahmad Budayr. Directed by Marwan Hamed; produced by Good News 4 Film & Music; screenplay by Wahid Hamed.
This is part of the 2013 Middle East Film Festival.
