Abstract:

For a quarter of a century, the Supercomputing Conference has served as the crossroad for the entire HPC community. In 2013, Denver was the scene where both academic and industry presented their cutting-edge research in the domain. This talk will focus on the novelties in parallel programming models for accelerators such as the introduction of CUDA 6.0 or OpenMP 4.0 as these new platforms have become synonyms with HPC. For reference all first 10 computers in the top GREEN500 include NVIDIA accelerators. Programming models evolve as the hardware evolves and new parallel architectures (like Kalray MPPA or Knights Landing) that might change the HPC domain in the next years have been demoed and a brief introduction on them will be made. Compilers also play an important role in the HPC ecosystem as more and more pressure is shifted from the developer to the tool constrained to generate the best possible code. As such a special session was dedicated to advancements in the Clang/LLVM environment which imposes itself as a mature competitor to GCC.
