Zhou Chunya, born in 1955, is one of world's most prominent contemporary artists. A Chengdu native, he graduated from Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1982 and German's Cassel College of Art in 1988. Best-known for his colorful "peach blossom" and "green dog" series, he works in a neo-expressionistic style with themes that mix nature with sexuality. Mr. Zhou is also one of China's most active philanthropists, having founded Rainbow Foundation to help earthquake-disabled children gain life skills and self-confidence. He made such a big splash recently through his philanthropy and his art exhibitions that the year of 2010 was named by many as the "Year of Zhou Chunya."
