Photographic artist Larry Kanfer, a University of Illinois alumnus in
Architecture, has made his passion his career for the past thirty-five
years. Widely recognized for his Prairiescapes, he strives to show the
connection between people and their environment. Larry calls the
'Inside India' collection his 'dream-of-a-lifetime photographic
journey', an adventure that allowed him to explore this relationship
between people and their surroundings in a completely foreign place.
During the presentation, Larry will describe how he saw life in India,
and how he tried to compose photographs that communicated his
experiences in two-dimensions.
'Inside India' shows daily life in India: its scenery, its food, and
its people. Bright colors and spectacular textures fill these
photographs. Spirituality, a theme 'in many of these images, provides
constant hope for many impoverished Indians. From the vibrant pinks
and blues of women's saris to the dusty reds of the ground they walk
on, the colors evoke the welcoming liveliness of the culture.
The show of artwork is currently on exhibit at the Alice Campbell
Alumni Center, through December 20, 2012.
