EUC Lecture Series: EU Roadmap for moving to a competitive low carbon economy in 2050
Christian Burgsmüller, EU Head of Energy, Transport, Environment section
ABSTRACT: The European Union (EU) is exploring cost-efficient approaches to transform the European economy to be more climate-friendly and less energy-consuming. Substantial efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions are showing results, with GHG emissions down by 16% over the last two decades. Through its "Roadmap for moving to a competitive low-carbon economy in 2050" the European Commission is setting out a plan to meet the long-term target of reducing domestic emissions by 80 to 95% by mid-century as agreed by European Heads of State and governments. The Roadmap shows how the sectors responsible for Europe's emissions can make the transition to a low-carbon economy over the coming decades.
