On behalf of the School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, we are pleased to announce the organization of a Mediterranean Studies graduate student conference entitled “Real & Imaginary Borders Across the Mediterranean.” Scheduled to take place in February 2013, this conference will focus on the risks associated with crossing borders – whether national, political, psychological, or cultural – within the Mediterranean.

“Real and Imaginary Boundaries Across the Mediterranean” will be a two day conference held on campus in the Foreign Language Building on February 8th and 9th, 2013. We are proud to be hosting two distinguished keynote speakers:  Professors Ruth Ben-Ghita from New York University and Abdulkader Sinno from Indiana University Bloomington.

In order to highlight the diversity of the Mediterranean, we do not want to limit this conference to one discipline, time period, country, or empire. Our hope, in organizing this conference, is to bring together graduate students from all different disciplines and unite them with this common region of interest.
