The Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program (IFLIP) provides language instruction for three hours each day for approximately a two-week period (excepting holidays). Classes are taught by advanced graduate students or faculty at the U. of I. Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants to be offered.

IFLIP classes are open to U. of I. students, faculty, and staff; retirees; and to the general public. No academic credit is given for IFLIP instruction. The cost for U. of I. students is $100; for U. of I. faculty, staff, and retirees, $125; and for the public, $150. Payments must be made at the time of online registration. Courses focus on conversational and language survival skills, and travel preparation.

There will be no refunds after the first day of class, Monday, January 6. Registration by Monday, December 2, 2013, is strongly encouraged. Course offerings with fewer than 10 participants as of that date are subject to cancellation. Registration fees will be refunded in full for classes cancelled due to limited enrollment. Cancellations after December 16, 2013, will be assessed a $25 fee.

IFLIP will begin on Monday, January 6, 2014, and extend through Friday, January 17, 2014. All classes will take place daily (except Saturday and Sunday), from 9 a.m. to noon, through Friday, January 17, except for other times noted below).

IFLIP classes available: Elementary Chinese (Mandarin), Elementary French,  Intermediate French, Elementary German, Elementary Italian, Intermediate Italian (1-4 pm), Elementary Japanese, Elementary Latin (5-8 pm), Elementary Portuguese, Intermediate Portuguese (1-4 pm), Elementary Spanish (9-12 & 5-8 pm), Intermediate Spanish (9-12 & 1-4 pm), and Advanced Spanish (5-8 pm).
