Since the early 1980s, the Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC) has been serving the climate data needs of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  Federal funding has provided the majority of support for this center for several decades with the mission to provide the region with climate data, derived climate information, climate research and outreach.  The MRCC works to continuously monitor the climate of the region, as well as assess changing climate trends and impacts.  As we find ourselves in an era where “climate” has surpassed “weather” as the favorite 7-letter word (at least for those with their heads in the clouds), the future brings challenges to remind us of the value of climate data and records.  The MRCC is quickly recognizing the need to embrace change, variability, and the rarely experienced Law of Averages.
